As we mentioned last week, Shop Seventh will feature one merchant every week, with information about their business and a great coupon offer that you won’t want to miss.
Our first merchant is the Park Slope Copy Center.
123 7th Avenue
Park Slope Copy Center has been serving Park Slope since 1981. Our beloved, cat-filled copy shop is a neighborhood institution that sometimes feels like a small-town post office or coffee shop. We thrive on the artistic and professional needs of the residents and businesses of our community. Whether you are a writer, an architect, an actor, an artist, a sculptor, a real-estate professional, an attorney, a homeowner, an apartment hunter, a job-seeker, a restaurateur, a teacher, a business owner, or a dedicated parent, we are here to help you polish and present your most important projects. Our staff is a mix of experienced printers, shipping experts, computer nerds, editors, and award-winning graphic designers. With our state-of-the-art equipment and our combined expertise, customers feel cared for even while seeing to their most pressing undertakings. We are a proud member of the Park Slope Chamber of Commerce.
The Park Slope Copy Center now offers document shredding! It is priced at $2.00 minimum, $1.50 per pound. Are you cleaning out your apartment? Would you like to get rid of that clutter in a safe, secure manner? Download our first Save on Seventh coupon and get 25% off of your first shredding job!

Each week here at Buy in Brooklyn (or on Shop Seventh), we will be profiling one of the avenue’s amazing stores, bars and restaurants and providing you, our readers, with an exclusive downloadable coupon offer from that business. Check back every Monday for the latest deals!
The first profile and coupon offer will be posted here on Tuesday, July 6th (as Monday is observed as a holiday).

This is a unique and rare opportunity to get our voices heard!!!
Please join BEDC on November 18th to meet with New York City Council Speaker Quinn to strongly put forward ideas for legislation that would materially aid small business in NYC to be competitive. The meeting details are:
Tuesday, November 18, 2008
8:00 am to 9:30 am
Brooklyn Public Library, Business Library
280 Cadman Plaza West
Brooklyn, NY 11201
You MUST RSVP by Friday, November 14th, to register your attendance. You can do this by registering online at: http://www.bedc.org/roundtable.htm
Over the fall, the BEDC followed up on a request from NYC City Council Speaker Quinn for information about “What steps by city government would help small business compete and be successful?” The BEDC sent out a request for ideas to their membership. As a small business person, I reacted strongly to the most-voiced suggestion: Tax rebates for landlords who rent to local businesses. I was apalled to find that this was the only way anyone could think of to help small business — rewarding the fox for watching the hen house! I sent in numerous suggestions, all of which were incorporated into the BEDC’s summary of ideas, which you can view by clicking here: cedc_survey_answer.
For the record, here is BEDC (The Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation)’s flyer about the event: nov_18_flyer I know it’s a god-awful time, but this really is an important opportunity. Please come and be heard. For once, city government actually wants to know what they should do, what we want them to do — and they’re willing to act. Let’s come together to look after us all!

Shortly, all CEDC members will be receiving an e-vite to the Tuesday, November 18th event with Council Speaker Christine Quinn. It will be held at the Brooklyn Business Library.
While everyone is invited, since this meeting was requested by the Speaker’s office as a means of talking directly to small businesses, it is imperative that the audience contains a good number of small businesses. It would be embarrassing to Brooklyn to have a sparsely attended event where few actual businesses were in attendance (the Queens Chamber of Commerce had a really big turnout). I would like at least 50-60 people at the meeting.
